We attempted to get reservations at Alma Fonda Fina for nearly a year while living in Florida, so finally securing a dinner reservation for two felt like a major win. They open reservations 60 days in advance and they disappear quickly, so planning ahead is essential. The food completely lived up to the anticipation. The menu is structured thoughtfully, beginning with appetizers and crudos, followed by masa-based plates and then mains. Everything is designed to be shared, with the mains serving as the most substantial courses. We ordered six dishes for the two of us, which was probably ambitious, but we were able to take some home. We had the guacamole, hamachi aguachile, short rib sope, chicken enmolada, lamb shank birria, and the sweet potato as our main. Each dish was beautifully crafted with immense flavor and an elevated Mexican flair. The hamachi was bright and balanced. The short rib sope was rich and deeply satisfying. The enmolada showcased complex mole without overwhelming the plate, and the lamb shank birria was fall apart tender and intensely savory. Even the sweet potato felt refined and intentional rather than secondary. If we could have skipped one item, it would have been the guacamole. Not because it was not good, because it absolutely was, but by the end we were incredibly full and it felt like the most replaceable dish of the night. The service was impeccable. Our water glasses were never empty. Each course arrived with fresh silverware and new plates. The pacing of clearing and resetting the table was seamless, and our server was attentive without being intrusive. The drinks were equally impressive. I ordered the hibiscus margarita and it was bright, slightly floral, and paired beautifully with the richness of the food. The only downside was the pacing of the meal. Although the restaurant allows approximately one hour and forty five minutes to two hours per seating, all six of our courses arrived within about one hour from first dish to last. It felt rushed and contributed to the sensation of being overly stuffed, slightly diminishing what could have been a more relaxed dining experience. It did feel like table turnover was prioritized. Parking is also difficult and there is no valet. Overall, if you can secure a reservation, it is absolutely worth it. The food and service justify the hype, just be prepared for a quicker dining pace than expected.

My wife and I dined at Alma Fonda Fina tonight, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Located in LoHi, this Michelin One-Star gem managed to exceed every expectation we had. The Atmosphere & Service The "fonda" concept—a traditional neighborhood eatery—is executed perfectly. The interior is incredibly homey and cozy, making you feel as if you’ve been invited into a Mexican family’s restaurant. We sat at the chef’s counter,which felt more like a front-row seat at a high-end bar. It was fascinating to watch the team’s craftsmanship as each dish was meticulously built right in front of us. The service was incredible—attentive, knowledgeable, and professional. The Food The food was a perfect 10/10. We shared six different items, and remarkably, each plate seemed to top the last. While the menu is famous for its sourdough tortillas and agave-roasted sweet potato, our absolute standouts were: Lamb Neck: Deeply flavorful and perfectly executed. Big Eye Tuna: Fresh, vibrant, and a testament to Chef Johnny Curiel’s creativity. A Note on the Vibe The space is intimate and often "buzzing," which adds to the charm, but the cozy environment does mean you are close to your neighbors. Our only distraction in an otherwise flawless evening was a screaming child nearby—something to be aware of if you are looking for a strictly quiet night. Final Verdict Alma Fonda Fina remains the "soul" of Denver's Mexican food scene. It is a prestigious experience that refuses to "nerf" its bold flavors. Expect to spend around $75–$120 per person and be sure to book weeks in advance. Just be prepared for a lively, authentic neighborhood atmosphere!

We had a fantastic experience at Alma Fonda Fina! What a pleasure to dine here. Such great care put into each dish, so many great flavors, and such a great vibe and atmosphere. Service was top-notch, too! The baked scallops dish was maybe my favorite, but everything we ordered was phenomenal. We showed up a little before 4pm (when they open) and stood in line with no reservation - we got a table for 3 with essentially no wait. Maybe we got lucky, but I would definitely recommend going any chance you get. I could see going here on a date, or even bringing family/friends visiting from out of town. Or you could just make a random evening extra special. All in all, they are running a finely-tuned machine over here and really execute their dinner service so well. It's a great overall experience and a contender, in my book, for best restaurant in Denver.

Last night was an incredible experience with Caroline and Leah (I hope I spelled their names correctly). The restaurant’s ambiance made us feel like friends chatting rather than customers and staff. The manager was incredibly attentive, paying close attention to our request about a song playing and going above and beyond to assist us. The food exceeded my expectations. My favorites were the Frijoles Puercos, Birria de Borrego and the avocado margaritas. Everything was delicious, but I believe the exceptional service from Caroline and Leah truly made the experience unforgettable. We will definitely be back.

Alma Fonda Fina is one of those places where everything just works. Mike was amazing—kind, knowledgeable, and made the whole night feel intentional from start to finish. Carne apache, camote asado, frijoles puercos—all incredible. The ceviche de atún was fresh and perfectly balanced. Then the birria de borrego… best thing I’ve ever had. No question. And somehow the bartenders are cooking at the bar—making food, running drinks, taking tables—and doing it effortlessly. Not chaotic, just completely dialed. Finished with emoladas de pollo and left genuinely impressed.
