Ryan Robletto a month agoThis restaurant was good just took a little while for the food to come out. The atmosphere was a little stuffy this is a reservation restaurant for sure if you don’t they can sit you at the bar which the menu is different. Customer service is a five. They’re extremely friendly and willing to help when they found out it was my birthday. They gave me a huge slice of cake. Staff made us feel very welcome. and this is an upstairs restaurant with a gorgeous view of the ocean so scenery wise this is great.
Bhakti Mahato 4 months agoThis has become my favorite restaurant in Honolulu. I know Duke’s Waikiki is highly recommended but I went to Hula twice during my 7 day stay in Waikiki. The host Paco is amazing. It was my birthday and he gave me and my boyfriend a grad booth. The Mai Tai is so fresh that you barely feel sugar. Their seafood is definitely good but I fell in love with their mushroom ravioli. Never had such great ravioli in life. Definitely try it. It’s full of flavors. I licked off the whole plate. And since it was my birthday, they generously gave us the Hula Pie for free. Thanks Paco and Hula staff for making my birthday special. Definitely coming back here.
Rebecca Eastman 4 months agoWe went for dinner on recommendation of a friend, unfortunately we were extremely disappointed in our meal, though the service was wonderful at the bar. We ordered drinks, which considering the price were just okay- nothing that blew out socks off. The real displeasure came with the food. We shared the Hurricane calamari (the cook on these were poor with uneven coating, soggy and bland despite the peppers and sauces). Our main was the crab topped macadamia crusted mahi mahi. There was nothing identifiable as macadamia on our plate and only a couple small bits of crab; the portion was tiny for s $51 meal (other establishments provided 3 generous mahi mahi portions for less), the sauce was very watery and tasteless, and the rice was devoid of flavor. We also ordered a side of risotto. It was the worst risotto I've ever had; it was not creamy at all, lacked flavor, and was cooked improperly with no al dente bite to the rice and came to the table cold. You'd get a better tasting risotto from a pre-packaged mix from Aldi. (if you want an outstanding risotto go to Kalapawai Market in Kapolei- their lemongrass risotto is delicious, creamy, and cooked to perfection!). We had a side of Brussels sprouts as well, shown on menu as herbed but they were overly spicy (even for my partner who loves heat); they did get the roast on these correct, though. It's truly shocking how bad this meal was and I feel because it's at the Outrigger, they know people will go for the name and ambiance/decor.
Steph 4 months agoWe had a reservation and we were seated quickly on a Saturday. The service is absolutely phenomenal, everyone’s so kind and attentive. The calamari is amazingly flavoured and textured. The mahi-mahi is so mouthwatering!! We are extremely impressed by the fish dishes and the cocktails – the cocktails all taste delicious (we tried 3 of them). We were also celebrating a birthday and their cake is amazing. Not to mention we had a breath taking beach view. Best experience from start to finish.
Sophie Staskowski 2 months agoWe really had the best time here! We had walked up and down the street past the location many times and Gigi, the host, always looked so happy and approachable so we stopped to talk to her and she was so engaging and lovely. We were tired as we had just arrived and were checking out the area and she was really welcoming. Hula Grill is above Dukes and is a fabulous overlook of Waikīkī Beach with a more chilled atmosphere than Dukes. We dined twice for dinner. The drinks and food were both excellent and perfectly timed, our waitresses were both fun and engaging. The salads were fresh, the ribs were just so delicious and crispy we got them both times, with mash instead of rice per our waitress’ recommendation, and boy was she right. We tried the pie too which was huge! Overall a wonderful experience watching the sun go down over Waikīkī beach.!!
