MC Family 2 weeks agoWe had a reservation at this busy North End spot and were seated quickly despite the crowds, glad we snagged a window table for our family of six. Service was a letdown. Our server seemed disengaged, likely juggling too many tables, and just generally uninterested over the course of the meal. To be fair, food did come out in a timely manner despite that. We ordered many dishes to share, and the results were mixed: Crazy Alfredo — the clear favorite of the night, really well done Bread with oil and fresh aromatics — amazing, could have eaten this alone Sunday Macaroni — just okay, our kids usually love gourmet mac and cheese and this didn't wow them Spaghetti and meatballs — extremely bland, especially the meatballs. Bolognese — okay. A couple different salads: good and fun flavors. Between the inconsistent food and lackluster service, we're honestly not sure we'd go back. The Crazy Alfredo and bread were genuinely great, but the rest didn't live up to the hype for a restaurant this busy and well-reviewed.
Bob Rice a month agoWe finally made our first visit to Michelin Guide-recognized Carmelina’s in Boston’s North End, and after one meal, I completely understand why this place earned that distinction. Carmelina’s delivers bold, unapologetic Italian cuisine where garlic, tomato, cream, butter, and rich slow-cooked sauces are allowed to shine. Portions are generous, flavors are layered, and nearly every plate feels like comfort food elevated through serious culinary execution. We started with the Tuna Arrabbiata featuring seared ahi, mandoline potatoes, sweet and hot peppers, and Moroccan olive dressing. Spicy, balanced, and absolutely delicious. The Baby Eggplant with tomato sauce, parmigiano, and basil was another standout. Mimmo’s Baked Meatballs were tender, flavorful, and deeply comforting, while the Pasta Bologna with veal, pork, beef ragù, 24-hour stock, and whipped ricotta was rich and hearty without feeling overwhelming. I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara made with Sulmona cured pancetta rather than traditional guanciale. Purists may debate the substitution, but the dish absolutely works. Creamy, pepper-forward, and intensely savory. What makes Carmelina’s memorable is not simply the quality of the food, but the spirit of the place itself. Much of the food arrives in the very pans it was cooked in, reinforcing the rustic warmth and generosity that defines the restaurant. Reservations are difficult to secure, but we were fortunate enough to walk in right as they opened. Come hungry, bring friends, and prepare to leave very full and very happy.
Comede Et Explora 4 months agoWe had high expectations for our meal given reviews but were left feeling disappointed from our experience. While the reservation website mentions the small seating area we didn’t expect to be sharing a 6 person bar-top table with another party of 3. We felt quite crowded and cramped touching elbows with the other party. Service also felt quite rushed including bread already at our table that was cold. The lobster ravioli and Sunday penne pasta were yummy but didn’t blow us away for the price. Portions were quite sizeable though and easy to split. Additionally we arrived to our reservation early to check-in and see how our table was. They told us to promptly come back at the top of the hour as they couldn’t seat us before then. We went across the street to a cafe to spend the 30 minutes but were called back urgently within 10 minutes that our table was available. All in all for the price of the meal we expected more of a luxury and customer service experience and felt something was lacking.
Sherry M a month agoI definitely see why Carmelina's has a Michelin Star! It's a quaint, little place located on Hanover St. in the heart of North End's Italian community . Our waiter immediately brought rolls w/ an olive oil balsamic dip and 2 waters. We started with the Mussels Bianco followed up with the Lobster Ravioli Fra Diavolo and the Bronx Tale. The portions are very generous, piping hot, kept the rolls coming and the water filled. The pasta was done to perfection! They don't have dessert, but there are plenty of pastry and Gelato shops close by. Definitely make a reservation! The menu is the same whether you're there for lunch or dinner. Very friendly staff and highly recommend!
C Dim a month agoThe food was amazing. The arugula beet salad was so fresh. The short rib fell off the bone it was so tender. The seafood pasta was packed with fresh seafood. Great portions and great cocktails. The server was a cutey and also gave neighborhood recommendations.
