Red Ash is the kind of place that reminds you why people still go out to eat. The room hums with energy. Fire, movement, conversation. Yet once you sit, the table feels contained. It works as a date spot because the atmosphere adds to the moment without pulling attention away from it. The food stood on its own. Pasta had structure and bite. Sauces stayed focused. Meat showed confidence with fire, not dependence on it. Bread, oil, seasoning—nothing treated as an afterthought. Even without great service, this would have been a strong meal. But the service elevated it. Our waitress was warm, present, and clearly proud of the food. She spoke about the dishes with familiarity rather than rehearsal. We later learned she had been there longer than any other server on the team, and it showed. That kind of tenure creates calm. It frees you to enjoy the meal without friction or second-guessing. Dessert closed the night cleanly. Rich, balanced, and well-timed. Red Ash works because everything moves in the same direction. The food earns your respect. The room holds energy. The service removes resistance. Together, it becomes memorable.

Red Ash was incredible from start to finish. The atmosphere hits you the second you walk in: warm, lively, upscale, and full of energy without ever feeling stuffy. It feels like the kind of place where every detail has been thought through, but nothing feels overdone. The food was outstanding. The steak was beautifully cooked, rich, and packed with flavor, with the kind of char that makes you slow down after the first bite. The pasta was just as impressive, creamy, fresh, and loaded with crab, with a perfect balance of richness and brightness. Even the small details stood out, from the greens on the steak to the texture and seasoning on the pasta. And then dessert absolutely finished the job. The cake with whipped cream and pistachios was fantastic, and the warm doughnuts with dipping sauces were ridiculous in the best way. One of those desserts where everyone says they are “just having one bite” and then suddenly the plate is gone. Service was excellent the entire night. Attentive, polished, and genuinely welcoming without hovering. Red Ash has the full package: amazing food, great cocktails, sharp service, and an atmosphere that makes the whole dinner feel like an event. Easily one of the best meals I’ve had in Austin. Would absolutely go back.

A hearty Italian American restaurant with handmade pasta and oven grilled meats. Everything is pretty heavy so I would recommend going light on ordering. Beet salad was refreshing compared to the bone marrows (must order though) and the octopus was also good. The pastas were extremely oily but overall unique and good. Steak was unimpressive in my opinion btt it the chocolate cake for dessert was great! Even with a reservation it took them 45 mins to seat us though. They were apologetic and nice about it but it was a long time to wait

I had my eye on Red Ash for a long time and promised myself this would be the first restaurant I’d visit on my first trip to Austin. The ambiance here is everything you want for a great night out: upscale and lively, yet still relaxed and welcoming. The dim lighting sets a warm and intimate mood. We started with the octopus a la plancha and the wood-roasted bone marrow, both of which were outstanding and set the tone for the rest of the meal. For mains, the tagliolini with fresh blue crab was delicate, rich, and perfectly balanced, while the sauteed North Pacific halibut was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The pork chop special was another standout. My friend described it as hearty, comforting, and expertly prepared. From start to finish, the food and drinks were on point. A huge shoutout to Christina, our server, who was wonderful, super patient, kind, and attentive, making the entire experience feel effortless and enjoyable from the moment we sat down. I highly recommend Red Ash for dinner or date night. It’s an easy favorite and a place I’ll absolutely be coming back to!

Positives: Our waitress was outstanding. They had convenient valet parking outside. Ambiance is good for date night. The red ash chopped salad was excellent and they brought it out split in two plates without us asking. Food presentation was excellent and I imagine many people were here more for Instagram than actually appreciating the quality of the food. Negatives: the rest of the food was really bad imo. I've been eating healthy for the past year so my body is a bit sensitive to overly greesy or fatty food. The beef bone marrow left me with that yucky McDonalds feeling (the waitress was proactive to comp this dish when she saw we ate very little of it despite us not complaining or raising concerns). The bone marrow came with the crispy Italian bread that many reviewers rave about (normally $4/piece), this was just a oily bomb, I recognize the standards for good bread in Austin are low but I still don't understand how anyone could leave favorable reviews for this - it's saturated in poor quality olive oil with likely canola oil mix (i took a course to be a olive oil sommelier in Italy so I feel qualified to judge the quality of the olive oil). For my main course, I had the tagliolini with crab, I ate about 1/4 of the dish, it may have been mediocre but I couldnt shake the aftertaste and yuck feeling from the bone marrow and bread so I don't feel i can judge it properly. We also had the frutti di mare with GF pasta. The GF pasta was solid and they had a generous amount of seafood but the sauce was forgettable at best. TLDR: food presentation is 5 stars but food itself left me with that yuck feeling I get from eating fast food.
