Leiah Shirley 2 weeks agoStarted with complimentary chips and 2 fresh tasting salsas. We tried a great deal and everything was amazing tasting - fresh and not heavy. Ordered cocktails/drinks, appetizers, kids breakfast, entree (tamales), dessert and Mexican cocoa. Stand outs were the pinto beans, tamales and elote. Service was great and we had a good meal.

Amanpreet Singh 4 months agoIf you are looking for date nights, or for casual dinners, this place works in both cases. We were served chips and salsa to begin with, the chips were slightly too oily for my preference but otherwise great. We started with the horchata, which was probably not the best horchata, but still not too terrible either. We ordered the Enchiladas Suizas and Mole poblano con pollo. The enchiladas were delicious, and the quantity did not disappoint either when I compare to some other mexican places in the similar price point. The chicken in the Mole poblano was a little dry, but shoutout to our server Ray, who replaced it for us. We then went with the Lamb Barbacoa which was terrific, it was juicy, tender and buttery. The server was very nice and patient with all the questions we had on the menu. Would definitely visit the place again. Note: Seems like there is a long wait time during the weekends, so I would advice on getting on the wait list early. Parking can be tricky as there was not much around, and you have to either do a couple of rounds around the block, or go in the residential lanes to find one.
Shubham Kamdi 5 months agoIf you’re looking for a vibrant atmosphere in San Jose, Luna Mexican Kitchen (The Alameda) definitely delivers on style and freshness. The first thing you notice is the open kitchen where they hand-press tortillas, which sets a high bar for the meal. The interior is beautiful and upscale, making it a great spot for a date or a lively dinner with friends, though it can get quite loud during peak hours. Since I didn’t opt for one of their signature mixed grills this time, I focused on the smaller plates and traditional entrees. The quality of the ingredients is undeniable; you can tell they prioritize organic and locally sourced items. The salsa has a great kick, and the handmade tortillas are easily the highlight of the meal—thick, warm, and flavorful enough to eat on their own. As for the main dishes, the flavors are clean and well-executed, though the pricing is definitely on the higher end for Mexican cuisine in San Jose. While the enchiladas and tacos were tasty, the portions felt a bit modest compared to the bill. It’s clear you are paying a premium for the "farm-to-table" philosophy and the prime location rather than just a massive plate of food. Overall, Luna is a solid choice if you value ambiance and ingredient integrity over a bargain. The service was attentive, and the drinks—specifically the margaritas—were balanced and fresh. I’d return to try more of the menu, but it feels more like a "special occasion" spot than a casual neighborhood haunt.
