This is one of those places you hear about so much you start to think, is it really worth the hype? Answer: it is. Probably one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. For starters, you walk in and it doesn’t even feel like you’re in Columbus anymore. It feels and sounds like you’re in a tavern in Germany. Accordion playing in the background, cramped booths, old wood. Lovely. The food? Lovelier. Sausages here are just outstanding. Not many other adjectives to describe them. I also tried the meatloaf. Like eating a delicious pillow - so soft, and bursts with flavor (great spice mix in it, with applesauce mixed in as well). Service was also very attentive and friendly. Prices reasonable, portions huge. Want good German food? Go here. It’s a must.

A must do dining experience in Columbus. The food was outstanding. The beer was outstanding. The desserts were outstanding. The service was friendly and attentive. A good bit of history in this building. Reasonably priced. I recommend using the get on the waiting list through their website. A gift shop and fudge shop are right across from the restaurant.

We came at 2pm on a weekday and were promptly seated. Our server was very pleasant and suggested the buffet which we accepted. It was a small but tasty offering of various German dishes. We finished up with dessert and couldn’t have had a more pleasant late-lunch while passing through Columbus.

We were visiting from out of town and stopped by for lunch on a Sunday before heading home. The German Village neighborhood was adorable and we were happy to have found Schmidt's. The Bahama Mama platter was amazing and we shared an apple strudel a la mode for dessert. I loved the ambience and the food was delicious!

Another gem that I found on Man V Food. It was a 19 hour 1025 mile round trip for me. To start with the staff was fantastic, made me feel welcome. Now I can’t review their sausage as this trip was all about that CREAM PUFF. I went with the peanut butter fudge cream puff and it was better than I had imagined. So packed with the light and airy peanut butter cream. Absolutely spectacular. It was well worth the trip however I do believe next time I will try the sausage buffet as well now that I know the cream puff will survive the long trip home, because of course I got one to go as well.
