Carter Walsh 4 months agoGreat steakhouse! We got the filet mignon with caesar salad, mac and cheese, mashed potatos, and mushrooms! Everything was really good! The salad had a great fresh dressing! The mushrooms were also incredible and the steak was very well seasoned! For dessert we got the apple tart which was incredible! Sweet and caramelly
Sean Collins 5 months agoThis was our first time trying our Lou and Mickey's and, as fans of classic steakhouses in general, this place really delivered. The prices were pretty much spot on, the drinks and wine list were both comprehensive, and the food was quite flavorful and well prepared. The only issue we had was with the Calamari, but the steaks, shrimp, and sides were all delicious. Just stick to the staples and you will walk away satisfied.
Michelle Luckey 8 months agoBy way of our anniversary, my wife and I spent the weekend in SD's Gaslamp District. We love ordering multiple items and sharing. I love the idea of, "family style" Lou & Mickey's offer. Our food was tasty but the "wow factor" was not present. My least favorite item on the menu was the spinach. I don't normally add seasoning to my meals at restaurants but the spinach was well deserving of a pinch of salt. We chose to eat outside but was met by an overpowering stench (I'll assume it was the ocean). The overall experience and atmosphere was great! I can't wait to try other menu items.
Matthew Luk 4 months agoFirst time that I've been inspired to review a place I some time, but this certainly restored faith in the potential of steakhouses. Probably should have ordered from the cocktail menu rather than a standard martini given the gin choices but things improved after that. Good selection of oysters from a Mexico to PNW to the East Coast. Varied and tasty accoutrements as well. Selection of American and Japanese Wagyu available, plus standard Prime cuts and bone in dry-aged options (30, 45, 60) sold by the oz. Got my 45-day ribeye rare as usual, but there are something like 8 level of "done-ess" listed so I would assume they're pretty precise with temperature control. All steak are also finished in seasoned butter, with a sauce on the side included. While I pride myself on my own steak cooking skills, the butter and dry aging really does make itself apparent in taste and texture. Meal was finished with a large slice of key lime pie, with a remarkably delicious crust. Service was also consistently excellent!
Kiet Le a month agoBeautiful Setting, But Beware of the Tourist Trap Lou & Mickey’s offers a prime patio location at the Gaslamp Quarter entrance that is perfect for people-watching, the experience is ultimately a disappointment. Service & Sales Tactics: My server, Jeffrey, was a skilled salesman who constantly pushed off-menu items without disclosing prices. It feels like a calculated strategy to steer diners away from the printed menu, leaving you with an unexpectedly high bill. The Food: While the oysters and Pinot Noir were enjoyable, the 5-ounce steak I was "persuaded" to order was overcooked and overpriced at nearly $100. To make matters worse, the recommended Espresso Martini was mediocre at best. The Bottom Line: A two-course lunch totaling nearly $200 is impossible to justify here. The restaurant relies on its beautiful location to draw in tourists, but the pushy, non-transparent sales tactics are unprofessional. Advice: If you visit, stick strictly to the menu and demand prices for any "special" before you order. I cannot recommend this establishment.
